Chapter 28
by aerieAfter sharing documents filled with the hard-earned knowledge they had gained over the years, they took a short break to relax.
“To think you’re graduating at the top of your class, you’re amazing, Senior!”
Evelyn could only give a sheepish smile as her juniors looked at her with admiration.
‘No, that’s not exactly true…’
Normally, she would’ve just grinned and accepted the praise, but knowing the real story, she couldn’t bring herself to do that.
After all, the real valedictorian was someone else.
“If things had gone as they should have, your fiancé would have been the graduation representative.”
“Pardon? Axion was supposed to be valedictorian?”
If it hadn’t been for his low attendance, Axion would have easily taken the honor of graduating at the top of the class. Even when considering both practicals and written exams, he was far superior to everyone else.
Evelyn, who had been deeply shaken when she first learned the truth, suppressed the bitter feeling rising up inside her. She turned to Felix, who was sitting next to her, hoping to change the subject. She only had a hunch, but there was something she wanted to confirm with him directly.
“Come to think of it, did something happen in your territory?”
Felix hesitated for a moment at Evelyn’s question, then mumbled softly, almost as if talking to himself.
“Well, everyone’s going to find out soon enough anyway.”
Not missing her friend’s muttered words, she widened her eyes and asked.
“Find out what?”
“A distant relative has come to stay with our family recently.”
‘A distant relative…!’
A name immediately popped into Evelyn’s mind. Still doing her best to hide her tension, she tried to sound casual as she asked.
“Oh, really? What’s their name?”
Felix answered with a shrug as if it was no big deal.
“I think she said her name was Dahlia.”
“….!”
Evelyn’s green eyes widened for a moment, then narrowed. Just as she had thought, the heroine of the original story was now living at the Lorenheim estate. However, the real problem was that this wasn’t supposed to happen yet.
‘…Has the story really started early?’
It hadn’t been officially announced at the Grand Temple yet, but if things followed the original plot, Dahlia would soon be introduced as the new priestess. Events that weren’t supposed to happen for several more months were suddenly happening now, leaving Evelyn feeling uneasy and lost.
“By the way, Senior, are you feeling okay? Are you sick or something?”
Evelyn quickly pushed aside any trace of worry from her face and forced a bright smile.
“No, I’m perfectly fine.”
“Well, if you say so, that’s a relief, but…”
Before the junior could finish her words, she suddenly widened her eyes and called out.
“Senior…!”
“Hmm?”
As Evelyn tilted her head and sipped her tea, the junior’s urgent voice rang out.
“Isn’t that your fiancé over there?”
Pfft—
‘Even for a joke, that’s terrifying!’
She quickly grabbed her handkerchief to wipe her mouth. However, when she noticed the junior across from her still staring past her shoulder, a sense of dread crept in as she slowly turned around.
“….!”
The moment she saw the man standing right behind her, Evelyn’s mouth fell open in shock. There, standing right behind her, was a man so strikingly tall and exuding an unmistakable presence that her jaw dropped in shock.
It really was her fiancé.
Axion, his crimson eyes gleaming sharply, made no effort to hide his presence.
“Axion? What are you doing here?”
Evelyn’s voice was tinged with fluster, but the man just curled his lips into a slow, lazy smirk. Despite the fact that he wore a faint smile, his eyes betrayed no particular emotion.
Lowering his head slightly, Axion leaned in and whispered just loud enough for her to hear.
“To catch my cheating fiancée.”
Evelyn was so shocked by his words that she immediately lowered her own voice to scold him, worried someone else might overhear.
“Have you lost your mind? What are you even talking about?!”
Axion just watched her for a moment, his brow furrowing slightly before giving a smooth, amused laugh. Meanwhile, Felix, who had been silently watching the two, gave a little cough and spoke in a dry tone.
“If you two are going to act lovey-dovey, could you do it outside?”
It was only then that Evelyn realized the other student council members were all staring at her and Axion.
Axion looked a little surprised by Felix’s remark, then muttered with a satisfied tone.
“Hm, it seems you have better friends than I thought.”
What on earth is he talking about…?
