Chapter 27 – To Catch My Cheating Fiancée
by aerieTo explain how they ended up in this situation, she would’ve to go back about five minutes. The Inevasel family’s carriage, which was supposed to be waiting right outside the bakery, was somehow parked a block away.
“Well then, I’ll be going first.”
Evelyn spoke, nodding her head in polite farewell to Duke Rikeran, though she was a bit puzzled. But for some reason, he insisted on escorting her all the way to the carriage. His unexpected kindness, especially since he mentioned he wasn’t busy today, almost made Evelyn want to cry inside.
It felt like the plot was falling apart before the story even officially began, and she couldn’t help but feel like it was all her fault.
‘I did intend to change my own fate, but…’
Evelyn shook her head firmly, telling herself that the fates of the main characters were out of her hands.
“I appreciate your kindness, but I’d rather avoid unnecessary misunderstandings with my fiancé.”
In truth, even if Axion did find out, he would probably not care in the slightest. Still, she believed that as long as they were engaged, they owed each other at least some respect and basic courtesy. She especially didn’t want to risk any rumors about her being seen with another man.
Khalid seemed a bit surprised by her response but bowed his head apologetically.
“I had no intention of causing you any trouble, my lady.”
‘Of course he didn’t.’
As the male lead, he was simply acting according to his naturally chivalrous nature. Evelyn, knowing there was no special meaning behind his actions, gave him a bright smile.
“I understand. Well, I really should be going now.”
Just then, Gideon, who had gotten out of the carriage, spotted his master and hurriedly ran over.
Khalid gave a slight nod, his eyes lingering on her retreating figure for a moment.

In a sunlit bedroom glowing with the warmth of the morning, Evelyn examined herself in the mirror. Her deep pink hair, with a hint of red, was tied back loosely with a ribbon, and her outfit looked more polished than usual.
‘Alright, this should do.’
With a satisfied smile, she placed a hand on the mirror and announced cheerfully.
“Looks, check~!”
“My Lady, what… are you doing?”
At some point, Larrie had come back from the dressing room and was now visible behind her in the mirror, looking completely baffled.
Embarrassed, Evelyn cleared her throat quietly.
“Ahem, it’s nothing.”
Today, she was in such unusually high spirits that even her personal maid gave her a puzzled look.
The reason was that she already had plans to meet with the Roxen Academy student council members. She had always been closer to them than her classmates in the medical department, so she was already looking forward to seeing them again. Of course, there was also some important news she absolutely needed to hear about.
“My lady, shouldn’t we be heading out now?”
At Larie’s reminder, she glanced at the clock and nodded, her eyes widening.
“Oh, I completely lost track of time. I’ll be back soon!”

Evelyn stepped into a café in the capital and leaned against a wall, watching the junior student council members who had arrived before her.
‘When they first joined, they were just like little chicks…’
Back when they had just joined the student council, they would get teary-eyed over the smallest mistakes. But now, seeing them confidently handling things on their own made her feel proud and nostalgic.
“What are you doing out here? Not coming in?”
“Huh? Felix.”
Felix, like Evelyn, was a member of the academy’s student council. While she served as president, he supported her as vice president. When they first met, he had been so guarded that she never imagined they would ever become friends.
‘How long has it been, you brat?’
He had to leave for a sudden inspection of his family estate and missed the coming-of-age ceremony. It was just as Evelyn was greeting her dear friend with a delighted smile—
“The seniors are here!”
Perhaps hearing their voices, the student council juniors stood up and greeted them politely.
The reason they had all gathered today was to officially hand over responsibilities to the underclassmen who would remain at the academy, from managing the upcoming student council elections to maintaining the list of vendors used during festival season.
