Chapter 1.2
by seiya“Getting involved will only bring trouble!”
One by one, the bystanders began backing away from the wrecked, blood-soaked carriage. The smart choice was to leave the scene as quickly as possible and avoid any entanglement with that notorious family.
“…He…lp…”
“Huh? What did you say?”
That was when Cynthia, her eyes unfocused, whispered in the faintest voice. The older woman leaned in, pressing her ear close to the young lady’s trembling lips.
Cynthia lifted a shaky arm and pointed off in the distance as she spoke again.
“Someone… please… help the person who collapsed… over there…”
“Shh. Someone else will handle it. We need to go before the guards arrive.”
As she finished her words, the woman forcefully dragged Cynthia away from the scene. Stumbling as she was pulled along, Cynthia bit down hard on her trembling lower lip.
“….”
Yeah. Up until now, she had been able to bear it.
Being suddenly dropped into an R-rated angst novel, discovering her role was nothing more than that of a background extra, and knowing she couldn’t change a single thing with her own power in this world.
‘But at least back then… I had something like hope.’
After giving Cynthia a few quick glances to check her condition, the woman must’ve decided it was safe to leave because she turned and walked away without another word.
“XX… It’s all ruined…”
Cynthia muttered to herself, now left completely alone.
She had just watched the heroine of the original novel die abruptly before her eyes.
It was about a year ago when Cynthia realized she had been transmigrated into a novel.
And not just any novel. It was a steamy, angst-ridden, R-rated reverse harem story, where the heroine shamelessly indulged in all kinds of scandalous acts with multiple men.
“This is insane…”
If you asked how she found out, it was because she had come face-to-face with none other than Elizabeth Bailey, the female protagonist of the novel.
At the time, Cynthia had been fumbling her way through the unfamiliar life of some random background character. At first, she thought she’d been dropped into some unknown world. Or maybe she’d died without realizing and been reincarnated into someone else.
But then…
“Lady Elizabeth, please don’t wander too far. The capital is dangerous!”
“Okay!”
Elizabeth?
Hearing a name that sounded strangely familiar, Cynthia turned her head without thinking. Beautiful golden waves, bright green eyes that reminded her of emeralds, and a gentle, sweet appearance…
“Huh? I know her.”
Cynthia muttered as she stared at the cute young woman someone had just called Elizabeth.
‘Wait, she looks exactly like the description in the novel! Wait… hold on. Did I just say novel?’
That’s right. The woman, smiling brightly with a hairpin bearing the crest of the Bailey family, looked exactly like the female lead from that absurdly titled R-19 novel, 〈 I’m So Happy When I Devour a Rose Like You! 〉
Standing frozen in place, Cynthia suddenly reached out and grabbed the wrist of a burly merchant passing by.
“E-Excuse me… is there a noble family called Bailey here in the capital?”
“Goodness! Of course, everyone knows them. They’re the richest ducal family in the area! How could you not know that?!”
The merchant, whose wrist had been suddenly grabbed, scratched his scruffy beard and gave her a puzzled look.
Horror crept across Cynthia’s face.
“Th-then, by any chance, is there a noble family called Romanov…?”
“Oh, that’s the household of the Grand Duke, a member of the Emperor’s bloodline…”
No way.
Cynthia turned ghostly pale as if she could pass out any second. Cold sweat ran down her back.
“Th-the Bailey family and the Romanov family… there’s no connection between them, right…?”
“Hmm… There have been rumors that Lady Bailey and Grand Duke Tesion Romanov are soon to be engaged…”
“You’re lying!”
“Why would I lie about something like that…”
The merchant eyed her suspiciously before shaking off her grip and walking away.
Left alone again, Cynthia clapped both hands over her mouth. If she didn’t, she was pretty sure she’d end up screaming curse words that definitely didn’t belong in this world.
‘This place is the novel I was reading? I’m so screwed…’
After a moment, she slowly lowered her hands from her mouth.
“So you’re telling me… that woman who skips over her official fiancé, Grand Duke Romanov, while fooling around with about twenty other men, doing XX with XX at sunrise and XXX with XXX all night long, and somehow builds a legendary reverse harem… that’s really her?”
Just then, an elderly man walking by stopped in his tracks, clearly stunned by the vulgar language slipping from the young lady’s lips.
“W-What did you just say? Those words… did they really come from a young lady like you?”
Ah, shit.
‘I thought I said that in my head.’
